MIAMI PTO MEETING
November 7, 2011
CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order at 7:04pm. The minutes from October 3, 2011 PTO Meeting and the Budget
Report were distributed.
PRINCIPAL’S REPORT: Mr. Bulgrin talked about the Kalahari group trip that Miami takes every year during spring break. Passed
out flyers to interested parties. Mr. Bulgrin also talked about the MEAP Cut Scores (handout passed out). The new MEAP cut
scores will lower our percentages of proficiency. Overall Mr. Bulgrin was pleased with where we were at. New scores will
prepare kids to be college ready. In about 2 years the MEAP test will be converted to a National Test.
Slime Time was successful. Halloween was a good day for the assembly. May repeat event next year. The same number of students
participated as last year. The students may get to vote next year for what activity they would like Mr. Bulgrin to participate in next
year for the Dolphin Dash.
Title 1 - Miami had PEN night. I will have a Math Night on 01/19/2012, kids will get a $10.00 gift certificate to spend towards the
purchase of a math game.
NCA school improvement, Mr. Bulgrin is very pleased with reading scores. Math and writing are the focus for now.
STAFF REPORT: Ms. Tabbi likes the PTO and thanked everyone for their support. Mr. Vasicek had nothing to report.
TREASURER REPORT: Julie S. reviewed the Budget Report.
Tina made a motion to pass the Budget Report and September PTO minutes for 2011. Sam S. seconded the motion. The motion
passed.
OLD BUSINESS:
Dolphin Dash: Shelley K. stated that the Dolphin Dash was a success and thanked everyone who volunteered.
Bake Sale: Arlene B. stated that the Bake Sale was very successful. The next Bake Sale will be during school and at Lucky Numbers
night in the spring.
Spooktacular: Shelley K. stated this event went very well and the students had a great time and thanked everyone who volunteered.
Red Ribbon Week: Sharon Mc. stated that the kids had a great time. Prizes were given out to the 4th and 5th grade.
McDonald’s Night: Shelley K. stated that it went well. Next one is on December 14th.
NEW BUSINESS:
Movie Night: Beth B. stated that Mars Needs Moms will be shown. This movie night will be free admission and their will be
refreshments for purchase. All refreshments will be $1.00 or less. Adult supervision is required for all students attending.
Bookfair: Shelley K stated that the bookfair will have an alien theme. Flyers will be sent home next week.
Roller Skating: The Roller Skating night had to be moved to Wednesday, November 16th. Tickets will be $4.00 in advance and
$4.50 at the door. There will be a prize basket raffle.
Hand Prints Across Miami: Cheryl A. stated that the cost was $5.00 per student to handprint the wall. 11/04/2011 was the deadline
to participate in this event. The painting will take place on 11/15 & 11/16 during school hours..
Playground Committee: Mr. Bulgrin stated we are in need of setting up a committee to decide new playground equipment. We need
to have this group set up in December. First meeting will take place in January with Mr. Bulgrin.
Bowling: Ed K. stated that the bowling day will take place at Kingswood Lanes on Hall Rd. & Groesbeck on January 21st from 2
pm to 5 pm. Pizza and Pop will be included, cost is $10.00 per person. Needs volunteers to help with event.
Breakfast with Santa: Shelley K. stated that this is a new event for this year. Chris Cake will be serving the pancakes. Entertaining
show and participants will catch their pancake with their plate. Pancakes, sausage, coffee and other drinks will be served. This
event will take place on Saturday, December 17th from 9 am - 12 pm.
Santa Shop: Beth B. stated this will take place from December 12th - 17th and during the Santa Breakfast. Teachers will sign up for
times for their class to participate. We have a company supplying the products this year. Still need volunteers to sign up to help.
The Shop will also be open during the Christmas Sing A Long on Dec. 13th.
Candy Donations: Lynn C. stated that the Halloween Candy donations went to Forgotten Harvest in previous years. Forgotten
Harvest doesn’t want individually wrapped candy pieces. Found local dentist at 23 Mile and Hayes. They are going to be working
with Operation Gratitude. Sending candy to local Soldiers & Troops that are overseas. Miami collected 70 pounds to send.
Mr. Hintze is taking over the Lego Club. The cost is $20.00 per student to join. Mr. Bulgrin asked for $200.00 from the PTO to grant
scholarships for low income students.
Hollie D. made a motion. Lynn C. seconded the motion. The motion passed to grant the $200.00 for scholarships to the Lego Club.

Hollie DeMaggio made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Lynn Czech seconded the motion. The motion passed.
The meeting adjourned at 8:28 pm.
