MIAMI PTO MEETING
April 12, 2010
CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order at 7:04pm. The minutes from March’s PTO Meeting and Budget Report were distributed.
PRINCIPAL’S REPORT: Mr. Bulgrin reported NCA visited Miami March 30th and 31st. They visited 35 classrooms and had discussions with over 50 stakeholders (students,
teachers, administration, support staff, etc) and the results were very positive. Miami received a number of commendations and suggestions for continued improvement. The NCA
team will complete a comprehensive report and suggest the highest recommendation for Miami. MEAP results have been distributed and overall scores are good with 3rd, 4th, and
5th grade receiving high percentiles in reading and math. Safety drills are coming soon and will include tornado, fire and lockdown procedures. Author in residences is an event that is
chaired through the school’s district and currently the committee is reviewing the process. More information will be presented as feedback is gathered from all schools. Mr. Bulgrin
would like to have several people on a committee to discuss different ways of structuring the PTO budget. The purpose of restructuring the budget will assist with providing an
improved view of funds being issued and generated.
STAFF REPORT: There was no staff report.
TREASURER REPORT: Shelley Knoche reviewed March’s Budget Report.
Brenda Reno made a motion to pass March’s Budget Report and PTO minutes for 2010. Patty Tench seconded the motion. The motion passed.
OLD BUSINESS:
Kids Only Night Out: Rachel Puszcz reported the kids had a good time and was well received with over 100 kids in attendance. The possibility of the next Kids Only Night Out taking
place during the holiday season was discussed.
Roller Skating Night: Shelley Knoche reported the turn out was low but everyone had a good time. There were games, prizes and the event brought in more money than expected.
Ice Cream Appreciation Day: Patty Tench reported the event went well and the students liked the ice cream.
Bake Sale: Shelley Knoche reported that the event made over $200 and thanked everyone for making it a success.
Bowling Bash: Shelley Knoche discussed the attendance was great for this event and she received several positive comments.
Little Caesars Pizza: All sales were well received and over $1200 was generated in funds. Thanks to all who bought kits and helped with distribution.
PTO Survey: Venisei Davidson reported over 80 surveys were completed and the overall comments were positive. Thanks to all.
NEW BUSINESS:
Family Fun Night: Shelley Knoche discussed the need for volunteers for this event scheduled for May 21st.
McDonald’s Night: Rachel Puszcz reported this event takes place this week on Wednesday from 5pm to 7pm.
Movie Night: Brenda Reno reported this event will take place on April 16th and free snacks will be given to students. Additional snack for a small price will be available for parents.
The movie showing will be Chipmunks the Sequel.
PTO Board 2010/2011 Nominations: Brenda Reno reported that flyers will go home this week and a ballot will be presented at May’s PTO meeting. There was discussion about
adding another Treasurer to the board to help with the responsibilities.
Brenda Reno motioned that an additional treasurer be added to the board for the 2010 and 2011 school year. Patty Tench second the motion. The motion passed.
OTHER BUSINESS:
Lucky Numbers Night: Laura Allen reported prizes and volunteers are needed for this event.
Other questions, comments or concerns: Rachel Puszcz discussed teacher appreciation. Volunteers are needed for setting up this event. Carol Grunwaldt reported that Miami currently
has earned over $300 with My School’s Cool. Please continue to shop at Lakeside Mall and turn in your receipts so Miami can receive credit. Receipts can be returned at your
request.
Brenda Reno made a motion to adjourn the PTO Meeting. Patty Tench seconded the motion. The motion passed.
